happy sunday loves~
i decided to take a two week break because i had my first exam and practical recently. it is important to me that i do really well in this class, so i really needed to focus and study hard.
with that being said, i have another exam tomorrow, but couldn’t pass up on another week of blogging, or else i’ll make it into a bad habit (again).
so, for today’s post, it is going to be a really easy one! in today’s blog post, i am going to be talking a little bit about BTS’s new album Map of the Soul: 7.
on february 21st, BTS came out with their new album Map of the Soul: 7. this album is their second for the map of the soul series. if you haven’t noticed, they organize most of their albums into trilogies — the first being the school trilogy. (*a/n: i know there are 4 listed, but most of these were EPs, and Dark & Wild directly followed the same concept, so it’s included as a “epilogue”?*)
- 2 Cool 4 Skool — 2013
- O!RUL8,2? — 2013
- Skool Luv Affair — 2014
- Dark & Wild — 2014
following the first trilogy, was their renowned HYYH series, which became a game changer in the group’s career. to be honest, this is where their rise in popularity began, and when i became a stan — or a big fan.
- The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (HYYH) Pt. 1 — 2015
- The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (HYYH) Pt. 2 — 2015
- The Most Beautiful moment in Life (HYYH): Young Forever — 2016
i may not be as vocal about my slight obsession with these boys, but if you knew me in real life, then you know that this is a big understatement. the last i mentioned BTS on my blog was in 2017, when they were performing at the BBMAs for the first time. if you would like to read that post, click here.
the next trilogy, and where they really took off internationally, is the love yourself trilogy.
- Love Yourself: Her — 2017
- Love Yourself: Tear — 2018
- Love Yourself: Answer — 2018
in 2018, i wish i had gone to the Love Yourself tour, and i was really close to getting tickets, but i did not prepare carefully. once i was in the checkout window, i realized my mistake, and it resulted in losing my opportunity to buy tickets.
i really like the concept behind the Map of the Soul series. as a psychology minor, i appreciate that they are referencing Carl Jung’s analytical psychology as inspiration for their concept, lyrics, and music videos. not only that, but they are applying these concepts to themselves, translating it into a collaborative art, and empathizing with their audience.
just because they are international super stars, doesn’t mean they are any less human than we are.
i also appreciate that they included various artists in their production. such as: traditiaonl musicians, a choir, and young dancers. this also comes into play with their recent global art project where they showcase contemporary artists and their works. they are just artists supporting artists, regardless of the medium.
okay, i’m finished with my soap box — what was suppose to be a easy post turned somewhat complex.
this album has a different tone in comparison to their other works, as it explores other genres of music that the group has not previously dabbled with. the variation of influences from other genres of music shows their versatility and appreciation for all forms of music.
my favorite songs in this album, in no particular order, include:
- Filter // Jimin’s solo
- ON // OT7
- 00:00 (Zero O’Clock) // Vocal line track
- Friends // Jimin & V’s duet
- We are Bulletproof: the Eternal // OT7
- Outro: Ego // J-Hope’s solo
there is so much meaning behind the lyrics of the entire album, and they all include some reference to their previous work, memories, and emotions. i believe BTS is as popular as they are because they have created and curated this world where fans can immerse themselves with all of the members. for example, their company produces the group’s own version of “reality tv” and “game shows” for the fans.
overall, i am really excited for this album, and more than i usually would be due to the fact that i will be seeing them perform in may! i will be seeing them at the cotton bowl on may 9th, and i am excited to see them with one of my closest friends~
i also found out my cousin will be coming to town with her friends to see them as well, so it’s just going to be a really fun weekend!
i am going to go ahead and end the post here because i really need to get back to studying! i apologize if this post was kinda random, but i didn’t really have a complete plan of what i wanted to talk about — so i was kind of rambling.
next time, i will be posting a few vlogs that i have been meaning to edit and put up. so, stay tuned for that if you are interested in what my life is like beyond M.A.N.
till next time~
